I’m not a very high-tech person and inherited a WIN11 PC from my son. I've been a single user on an old WIN10 machine with a simple single disk drive for years therefore find storage options on this new computer confusing.
Due to a different problem, the WIN11 PC was recently wiped clean with a fresh Win11 install. The data was mostly my son's and was stored on a separate portable drive waiting to be reinstalled when he next gets home from school.
This PC has three storage drives, C which came with the computer, and two more, D&E, which we added for additional storage. The 2T NVMe is new, and the 500GB is recycled from another computer.
C: Local Disc
D: 2T NVMe (empty)
E: 1T Sata 500GB (empty)
I just set it up with both he and I as users, updated Windows, and began loading programs into it for the ultimate purpose of moving stuff over from my old Win 10 computer. My son will only have access the computer when he visits from school.
I am attempting to have all added programs stored on C, with all storage (Downloads, Documents, Pictures, Music, Video) stored on D, so I followed the instructions on changing where new data content is saved (from C to D) and restarted the computer.
Then I tested the new settings by downloading a photo and found that it was saved to Downloads on drive C, not D, and I don't know why, so I opened Properties on the Downloads file and all its contents, clicked the Location tab, then clicked the Move command and selected drive D.
Now I’m not sure I did the right thing and would like to move Downloads it back to Drive C: except that I cannot because the Location tab on the Download file has disappeared, and therefore the Move command cannot be accessed.
Am I headed the right direction, or should I also move Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video folders also to drive D?
