Win 10 disk clone - File:\Boot\BCD - Error 0xc0000034 - boot HELP

Kevin Saab

Question

So, I had an 256Gb SSD SATA as my main, and I bought a 1Tb M.2 to upgrade the setup. I activated the new storage selecting MBR and then cloned the whole disk with Macrium Relflect.

After that, I tried booting from the M.2 successfully, but to windows my main was basically still the SATA. ( Drive letter C:, Pagefile, etc.)

I thought that booting from a pendrive, using DiskPart and interchanging letters would be the solution, but nothing changed.

Then I... Used the "clean" command on the SATA to, in my head, force the system to use the M.2 but obviously didn't work.

When booting I had a blue screen saying:

File:Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc0000034

The automatic tool to repair boot issues didn't work

After that, investigating a little I tried the "BootRec/FixBoot" which returned an "Element not found", then I used "BootRec/RebuildBCD" to which again returned "Element not found"

From this point onwards the "solutions" I've found, are like Chinese to me. Obviously I need to locate the right place to create the file, but I'm clueless.

Also I don't know how to verify nor appropriately set the properties that both reserve and windows-installed partitions should have 😭

Please help.
