Microsoft password problem

Having a nightmare with microsoft account/login.live. I accepted the latest windows update, and on reboot it put me through a set preferences sequence.. to arrive at a login to your microsoft account screen with no skip option. I try my login.live password and it says incorrect, so then I go "forgot password", follow the prompts, get a code on my mobile, and reset the password, which brings me back to the login screen, so I enter the new password, and it says "incorrect password" - so I change it again, and it says "incorrect password". About then I hit control alt delete and select "sign out". I sign back in and at least I'm back in windows except I can't sign in to my email. Going round in circles and now it won't let me try anything because "too many login attempts with wrong password".
